Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, and the effects of these disorders on general health. The philosophy of chiropractic is based on the premise that the nervous system controls all aspects of the human body. When the nervous system has interference placed on it sub-optimal health will occur. The most common cause of interference to the nervous system is when a vertebra in the spine becomes misaligned, joints become fixated, and soft tissue changes occur, resulting in abnormal nerve flow. This process is called a subluxation. Doctors of Chiropractic are trained to examine the spine, detect subluxations, and to correct these subluxations through the use of spinal adjusting. Spinal adjusting is a gentle, hands on technique that applies a controlled force into the misaligned joints to restore the joints normal motion and alignment, and to restore the normal nerve flow thus allowing the body to heal itself.
Rehabilitation is a component of most treatment plans at our office. Patients who have suffered an injury, who have chronic pain, and who have difficulty regaining their desired health, benefit from a rehab program. We utilize gym balls, Thera Bands, Boza Balls, hand weights, and an array of exercises/stretches to customize a rehab program for our patients. A personalized rehab program allows each patient to obtain optimal health and reach their goals.
We utilize physiotherapy modalities at our office to aid the chiropractic adjustments. Modulates such as ultrasound, electric muscle stimulation, and intersegmental traction can be helpful in decreasing pain, reducing inflammation, and improving soft tissue healing.
Orthotics are not just for the feet. Orthotics support the pelvis, back, knees, hips, and ankles by providing a balanced foundation for the body. Improper foot alignment maybe the cause of a patients back pain, hip pain, or knee pain. Orthotics make the chiropractic adjustment more effective and can improve the patient’s quality of life. A recent study found that 77% of new patients to chiropractic had moderate to severe pronation and would benefit from custom orthotics. Proper foot alignment and support from custom orthotics are very important for most patients.
